Big Names @ One Love World Reggae Festival in Italy

The One Love Festival in Italy has already made a great line up… You should really not miss the only 10 days lasting festival in Europe!! What I love the most is that they did not forget on the real Roots Reggae music. And for the greatest of them all, the original Wailer that sang with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, the real Rasta Man, the one and only BUNNY WAILER. I am so happy for that, cause I haven’t seen him perform from the year 2009, so I am really looking forward for that concert. The second one that I admire so much is Groundation, the modern reggae band from California, US that have passion for the real roots music. This edition of One Love festival will really be full of great reggae concerts, you should also not miss Junior Kelly and Anthony B, they both have awesome energy and really great live performances! Check out the below playlist to see the line up for the One Love World Reggae Festival, which will be held in Latisana, UD, Italy from 17-26 July 2015 and will last full 10 DAYS!! 🙂

SKA CLUB

One of all the oral lores says that the tropical summer of 1966 was particularly hot, and therefore, it was impossible for the dancers to follow the unbraked rhythms of ska: The musicians of Kingston had to slow down the beat, creating the new rhythm rocksteady.

This very rocksteady, together with all the other rhythms typical of this origin, with touches of jazz and soul, will help to combate the heat of the mediterranean Auugust at the Ska Club and to dance in style.

ARTISTS: Prince Fatty with Winston Francis, Andy Smith, Masa + Ash, Earl Gateshead, The Tighten Up Crew, Natty Bo, Wassie One, Black Uo, Oldies But Rudies, Coco Girl, Scorching Dynamite Sound, Sukes of Skazzard meets Pirates Crew, Soulboys meets Rudeboys, Jahmaik, Lord Toaster, Natural Groove Brothers, Charlie Mondadientes, Los Primos Del Ska, La Gramola Tapiola, Vinaros Tropical Crew

ROOTS YARD

The Roots Yard was brand new for the 20th Anniversary of Rototom, with the goal of bringing together the lovers of the more classic sounds of reggae in a nice place where we can enjoy styles such as roots and Nu roots from 1pm until 6am every day. This area is open to all the singjays, sounds and selectors that are already at the festival and wish to take part.

One Love World Reggae Festival

onelove1

After all the years of summers in Spain, this year it may be different. And all because of One Love World Reggae Festival in Italy that will last full 10 days!! What does that remind you of? Well, it reminds me of the “old” Rototom Sunsplash that was held in the beautiful Rivellino Park in Udine. And it was only 2 hours away from us… not 2000 km as Rototom in Spain.

The One Love World Reggae Festival will be held in Camping Girasole / Latisana (Udine, Italy) from 17th to 26th July 2015!! That is so great, I remember my first Rototom festival in the year 2009 lasted 12 days and even that was not enough for me. The most beautiful thing about all that is that reggae festivals usually look like rasta towns 🙂 Beautiful, with full of energy and good vibes. Because of that I can not wait for the One Love World Reggae Festival.

The camping will be in the Camping Girasole that is held 2km from the beaches of Lignano Sabbiadoro. The camping offers bungalows and rooms for 2-6 people and more that 700 tent places. The Camping Girasole also includes a bar, pizzeria, restaurant, sports courts and many more. During the festival there will also be a Reggae Selecta who will take care for the beautiful reggae music.

I have to mention that the Camping Girasole is the place that hosted the first editions of Rototom Sunsplash back in the 1990s and because of that I am sure that it will greet the rasta people with all its hospitality.

HERE IS THE CURRENT LINEUP FOR THE ONE LOVE WORLD REGGAE FESTIVAL
17 – 26 JULY 2015 in Camping GIRASOLE, Lignano SAbbiadoro – LARISANA (UD):

MS LAURYN HILL

lauryn-hill
Each year Rototom Sunsplash brings to the main stage some artists that transcend the boundaries of reggae. In 2014 we will have the presence of Lauryn Hill, actress, singer and producer and 8 times Grammy award winner, who became known worldwide as the Fugees vocalist. After launching a successful solo career with the release of “Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” her political commitment, critique of the music industry, racism and exploration areas such as drama and poetry have kept her away from the media spotlight during recent years and it was not until last year that she started to officially release material and perform again.

JANINE “JAH9” CUNNINGHA

jah9

The poet / singer Jah9 is a prominent new force of the Jamaican roots scene. Her real name is Janine Cunningha, born in 1983, after her first poetic experiments she discovered the free jazz structure and late the suggestions of dub and roots culture, carving her style into an evocative cross between genres, taking advantage of the freedom of both schemes. After a first mixtape and some singles, “New Name” was rekeased in 2013, produced by Rory Gilligan of Stone Love. This anticipated debut full length is one of the most interesting records encountered in the Jamaican roots scene in recent years: a great team of musicians including Donal “Bassie” Dennis, Dean Fraser, Nambo Robinson and Franklyn “Bubbler” Waul provide twelve strong roots frameworks inside which she moulds all the intensity of her poetry with lyrical communion and a truly impressive expressive manner. – See more at: http://www.rototomsunsplash.com/en/musica/main-stage/artists/3582-jah9#sthash.1cXrKTdr.dpuf

LUCIANO

luciano

With his regal presence, voice full of spirituality and the social implications of many of his songs, Luciano is one of the indisputable heirs of the spirit of roots reggae from the seventies, of characters like Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. The return of the ‘counscious’ theme to the dancehall scene in the first half of the nineties was due in part to hiss magnificent first albums on the label Exterminator the milestone of which was certainly “Where is Life” released in 1995, a record which still plays an important part in his concerts. His high standards are also apparent in his great recent works, such as “United States of Africa”, “Jah is my Navigator” and “Rub a Dub Market”, in which there is some of the best of his poetry and rasta inspiration. Due to his artistic merits the Jamaican government granted him the honor of the “Order of Distinction” in 2007. His latest work, “The Qabalah Man “, produced by the label Al.Ta.Fa.An, was published in 2013.

JOLLY BOYS
jolly-boys

In the early sixties, before ska, there began the adventure which would end in the modern genre of music from the island of Jamaica. In contrast to the sounds coming from the U.S. at the time was el mento, the local variant of calypso .

Formed in 1945, the Jolly Boys are the most famous followers of this tradition and one of the oldest Jamaican musical groups still in business. They entertained Port Antonio in the forties at parties organized by the actor Errol Flynn on his farm on the naval island in a manner in keeping with the name of the group.

Through ongoing performances in the hotels on the north coast of the island and several lineup changes , the Jolly Boys reached us in the seventies with Albert Minott on lead vocals . In their latest album” Great Expectations ” they take on a more pop/rock style such as the likes of Amy Winehouse, The Doors , New Order and Lou Reed, among others, and have had the opportunity to bring their music to the general public via a recent world tour as a support act for Sade.

INNER CIRCLE

inner-circle

The brothers Ian and Roger Lewis formed this extraordinary Jamaican band in 1968 with other musicians, some of whom ended up forming Third World, and are still making music, after a glorious adventure of over forty years ; the irresistible mixture of reggae and soul of mixture in the beginning, the unforgettable period with Jacob Miller on vocals, the crossover albums “Everithing is Great” and “New Age Music”, released on Island, and the great successes of the singles “Bad Boys” and “Sweat” in 1987 and 1992, respectively.

In 2009 they featured the brothers Stephen and Damian Marley on “Smoke gets my eyes” on the CD “State of da World”. Ian and Roger still have their original roles within the band and with Junior Jazz taking the place that was once filled by ‘Killer’ Miller: the sound of Inner Circle is now as powerful and elegant as in its heyday.

EASY STAR ALL-STARS

easy-star-allstars

The small New York label Easy Star started operating in the mid-nineties , like many other independent labels, releasing some reggae from the local scene and re-editing Jamaican historical material. This evolved in 2003 thanks to a great idea, to create a bridge between psychedelic rock and the purest spirit of Jamaican dub, remaking in the key of dub , track by track , a masterpiece of rock such as “Dark Side of the Moon “by Pink Floyd. ” Dub Side of the Moon” quickly became a classic : the beautiful concerts of the house band , dubbed Easy Star All- Stars, were very successful and were immortalised in a memorable DVD . In spite of the other great albums reworked since then, “OK Computer” by Radiohead, “St. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” by the Beatles and “Thriller” by Michael Jackson, “Dub Side of the Moon” remains the master of the house , to the point that , to celebrate its tenth year of publication , Easy Star All -Stars have been on a world tour in which they performed it in its entirety and it is with this dub spirit that they will return to Rototom Sunsplash.

ALPHA BLONDY
alpha-blondy
Alpha Blondy is the artist who has contributed more than any other to bring reggae to its roots in Africa. Having discovered reggae by listening to Bob Marley and Burning Spear during a long stay in New York in the seventies, Alpha returned to Ivory Coast to give life to an exceptional artistic adventure through masterpieces like “Cocody Rock” “Apartheid is Nazism”, “Jerusalem” or “Yitzhak Rabin”. In 1986 he recorded “Jerusalem”in Jamaica, collaborating with the Wailers bassist ‘Familyman’ Barrett, with the title track calling for unity of the three great monotheistic religions. In 2005 he was appointed Ambassador of Peace by the United Nations for the Ivory Coast because of his humanitarian activities. His latest work “Mystic Power” includes the participation of Jamaican dancehall star Beenie Man.

THE GLADIATORS FT. DROOP LION
gladiators
Gladiators are one the most exciting groups of the golden age of roots with extraordinary albums to their credit from Studio One on the English label Virgin with the production of Prince Tony Robinson. Albert Griffiths is no longer the lead of the group, formed in 1968 with Errol Grandison and David Webber, but the band continue to tour the world performing their classic material. In the current lineup the Gladiators are the renowned Gallimore Sutherland and children of Albert Griffiths, Al and Anthony Griffiths, on vocals and drums respectively. This year they recorded a new CD with the Jamaican artist Droop Lion, titled “Back on the Tracks” and it is with this young singer from the parish of St. Mary that the Gladiators will perform at Sunsplash 2014.

TWINKLE BROTHERS
twinkle-brothersFrom Falmouth, Jamaica they have been active for over 40 years: their first albums “Rasta Pon Top”, “Love” and “Praise Jah” are amongst the best examples of the beloved roots style of the sixties. We are of course referring to the Twinkle Brothers formed by the Grant brothers who; after establishing themselves in London, have continued album after album as ambassadors of digital deep roots, taking their sound to countries somewhat distanced from reggae music, such as Poland, where they collaborated with the folk band Trebunie Tutki on 2 albums of a fusion of Jamaican dub with the sounds of Eastern Europe. As well as the two Grant brothers, the latest line-up of this historic band includes legendary British artists such as Black Steel and Dub Judah on the guitar and the bass respectively.

JIMMY CLIFF
jimmy-cliff
One of the earlier stars of Jamaican music to gain acknowledgement outside the borders of the island at a time when reggae was very much still in its infancy. He began in the mid- ska era with hits like “Hurricane Hattie”, “Dearest Beverley”, “King of Kings” and “Miss Jamaica”. After successes with key reggae hits like ‘ Wonderful world , beautiful people ‘ and ‘ Vietnam ‘ in 1971 he had the opportunity to play, with great effectiveness, the lead role in “The Harder They Come ,” the Perry Henzell film which played an important role in popularising Jamaica and its music all over the world thanks to a fabulous soundtrack featuring songs such as ‘ Harder They Come ‘ and ‘ You can get it if you really want ‘.

Pôle Culture & Manifestations

Festival Rencontres & Racines 2014

The Festival Rencontres & Racines (Meetings & Roots) may show you that “difference” is a chance and nothing else.
Organized every year, the festival is the best way to discover cultures from all over the world.
From America to Africa and through Asia, Rencontres & Racines has a great particularity. Let’s explain of what the festival consists.

Visuel

A little historic
Rencontres & Racines is settled every year in France at Audincourt since 90’s. The city of Audincourt is well-known for its various origins and for its foreign population. Rencontres et Racines becomes the most important festival of eastern France because of the important worth it raises: solidarity, respect, tolerance.

Music
Music is a great opportunity to defend a message or just to decompress with friends. Our festival invites every year big headlining of music (all culture confused). That’s why nearly 37 000 people are waiting for them every year.

Associations, Charities : our particularity
Rencontres & Racines isn’t only a festival of music. It is also a place where human associations (80 in 2013) can explain their goal and earn money for their investments.
70 stands of those Charities were offered in 2013 to the public: their culinary speciality, drinks, memories of the country they defend, or just a warm welcoming smile. Those things provide money which they may use for their human project.
